Nautapa began with rain and thunderstorms in several parts of Madhya Pradesh, while many districts continued to face extreme heat. On the first day, Bhopal, Umaria, Damoh and more than 15 districts witnessed changing weather conditions, including rainfall and strong heat. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), pre-monsoon activity may begin from May 28, with rainfall alerts issued for 14 districts in northern and southern Madhya Pradesh. A red alert for severe heatwave has been issued for Niwari, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Panna and Satna on Tuesday. Khajuraho and Nowgong in Chhatarpur district remained the hottest places in the state, with temperatures staying above 45 degrees Celsius. Rain likely after three days of intense heat The Meteorological Department said severe heatwave conditions will continue across most parts of the state for the next three days. Rain, thunder and lightning are likely in parts of Gwalior, Chambal, Sagar and Jabalpur divisions from May 28. Rainfall was also recorded on May 25 due to the effect of a trough passing through the western region. Khajuraho records season’s highest temperature Khajuraho recorded a temperature of 47.2 degrees Celsius on Monday, the highest in the state this season. Officials said such a high temperature was recorded there for the first time. Nowgong recorded 46.8 degrees Celsius, while Datia reported 45.6 degrees, Mandla 45.5 degrees and Tikamgarh 45.3 degrees Celsius. Among the major cities, Gwalior recorded 44 degrees Celsius, Bhopal 43.4 degrees, Jabalpur 43.9 degrees, Indore 41.4 degrees and Ujjain 41.8 degrees Celsius. Heatwave alerts issued across the state The IMD issued an orange alert for severe heatwave in 18 districts, including Rewa, Sidhi, Singrauli, Jabalpur, Damoh and Rajgarh. A yellow alert has also been issued for 22 districts, including Bhopal, Gwalior, Morena, Ujjain and Khargone. At the same time, Indore, Dewas, Dhar, Barwani, Betul and several other districts are likely to experience intense heat conditions. IMD advises people to avoid afternoon heat Meteorologist HS Pandey said the impact of heat will be strongest between 12 noon and 3 pm. He advised people to avoid stepping outdoors unless necessary, drink enough water and wear light cotton clothes. Special care should be taken for children and elderly people.
