damoh-class-3-student-dies-after-2-months-in-coma:family-accuses-teacher-of-brutal-beating-over-incomplete-homework

In Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh district, a 7-year-old student of a private school died during treatment in Bhopal. On Saturday morning, family members reached the SP office with the child’s body and levelled serious allegations of assault against a school teacher. The family claimed that the teacher beat the child so brutally for not completing homework that he remained in a coma for two months and eventually died. The deceased student was identified as Kavya Namdev, a resident of Tendukheda and a Class 3 student of IES Public School. According to family members, on February 19, teacher Devindri Thakur allegedly beat Kavya on his hands, legs and head with a scale for not completing his homework. After the incident, the child developed high fever and stopped eating and drinking. Family claims MRI report showed swelling in brain The family first took the student to the Tendukheda health centre. When his condition deteriorated, he was referred to Chirayu Hospital in Bhopal. Family members claimed that an MRI report had confirmed swelling in his head. After this, Kavya underwent treatment at Apollo Hospital in Jabalpur and later at AIIMS Bhopal, where he died on Friday evening after nearly two months of treatment. Uncle alleges names of accused were removed from FIR The deceased child’s uncle Hemant Namdev said, “We brought the body from Bhopal to the Damoh SP office. From there, we were sent to the district hospital for postmortem.” The uncle alleged that although a complaint was registered at Tendukheda police station, it was not written according to their statement and the names of the accused were removed. He claimed that complaints had also been submitted to the Collector, SP and District Education Officer, but no investigation was carried out. Following the child’s death, the family is now demanding strict action against the teacher. Aunt says teacher justified beating children Kavya’s aunt Preeti Namdev said the teacher Devindri Thakur had assaulted the child. She said that when the family went to the school to complain, the teacher allegedly responded by saying, “If children are not beaten, how will they study? That is why they have to be beaten.” After the incident, Kavya reportedly stopped eating and drinking. Awaiting postmortem report for further action After receiving information about the matter, Kotwali TI Manish Kumar reached the district hospital. Police sent the body for postmortem examination. On the instructions of senior officials, a panel postmortem will be conducted. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has also been constituted to probe the case. Tendukheda police station in-charge Ravindra Bagri said that at the time of the incident, a case of assault had already been registered against the teacher. Further action will now be taken based on the postmortem report. School management says teacher was removed School operator Vikram Singh said the teacher had been immediately removed from her job after the complaint was received. He added that the school management also provided financial assistance for the child’s treatment and supports a fair investigation. Damoh-Jabalpur Highway Jammed, Police from Five Stations Arrived After the postmortem in Damoh, family members took the child’s body to Tendukheda and parked the ambulance in front of the police station in protest, leading to a traffic jam on the Damoh-Jabalpur route. After receiving information, police personnel from five nearby police stations — Jabera, Nohata, Tejgarh, Taradehi and Tendukheda — reached the spot. Damoh DSP DS Thakur spoke to the family members and tried to pacify them. The DSP said the family was demanding immediate action against the teacher. Police officials informed them that a case of assault had already been registered against the teacher at the time of the incident. Now that the child has died, additional charges will be added once the postmortem report is received.
