In Datia district, a 26-year-old woman died by suicide by hanging herself. She was pursuing a PhD while living in Gwalior. A one-page suicide note was recovered, in which she held her boyfriend and his two sisters responsible for her death. The woman accused them of blackmail, threats and mental harassment. The incident took place in the Goraghat police station area. According to family members, around 6 pm on Friday, the woman went from her room to her younger brother’s upstairs room and hanged herself using a dupatta. When she did not come out for a long time, family members entered the room and found her hanging. After the postmortem on Saturday afternoon, the body was handed over to the family. Allegation of rape by giving false promise of marriage According to family members, the woman met Yogesh Rawat, a resident of Pachokhara, while staying in Gwalior. The two later entered into a relationship. It is alleged that on March 13, Yogesh took her from Phoolbagh Square in Gwalior to a hotel. There, he allegedly mixed an intoxicating substance in a cold drink, sexually assaulted her and recorded obscene photos and videos. Family members claimed that when the woman later became pregnant and pressured him for marriage, the accused refused and started threatening to make the photos and videos viral. What was written in the suicide note “I am going to die. The reason is my friend Yogesh and his two sisters. Yogesh blackmailed me, saying he would either die or kill me. He threatened to make my photos and videos viral. I had gone to the police station and action was already underway there. Despite this, his sisters Poonam and Priyanka came to my house and created a scene. They went to my sister’s in-laws’ house and threatened them as well. Later, they came to Gwalior and threatened to kill me. They abused me. They shouted in the locality and defamed me publicly. All this was troubling not only me but also my family. Yogesh is fully aware of everything. I request the police to punish Yogesh, Poonam and Priyanka so that they never ruin anyone else’s life to the extent that a person is forced to take such a step.” Had submitted application at SP office two days before death On May 14, the woman had submitted a complaint application at the Gwalior SP office. In the complaint, she stated that she was friends with Yogesh, the brother of her friend Pinky, who is also from Datia. She alleged that on March 13, Yogesh lured her with food and drinks and took her to a hotel near Phoolbagh Square. He allegedly brought cold drinks and pastries to Room No. 107. After consuming the food and drinks, she started feeling dizzy and lost consciousness. When she regained consciousness, she found herself without clothes, while Yogesh was lying beside her unclothed. When she screamed, he allegedly covered her mouth and said, “I am going to marry you anyway, so why are you protesting?” He also allegedly told her that he had recorded videos and clicked photos of their physical relationship and threatened to make them viral if she resisted further. Out of fear, she remained silent. She further alleged that on March 15, Yogesh again established physical relations with her in the same hotel room. On April 18, after suffering stomach pain, she visited a hospital where doctors informed her that she was pregnant. Due to complications, she had to undergo surgery. When she informed Yogesh about this, he allegedly began distancing himself and later refused to marry her. According to the complaint, he threatened her that if she pressured him or filed a complaint, he would make the videos and photos viral and would not allow her to marry anywhere else. She had stated in the complaint that the incident left her physically and mentally disturbed. She accused Yogesh of establishing relations on the false promise of marriage and later backing out. She had demanded legal action against him. Police said – Action will be taken after investigation Badoni SDOP Vinayak Shukla said that prima facie the case appears to be one of suicide.
