The road to the IPL 2026 playoffs just took another turn as the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by seven wickets in IPL 2026 at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium on 15 May. CSK were on a three-match winning streak heading into the LSG match. After this loss, CSK find themselves at risk of missing out on a playoff berth for a third straight season. Meanwhile, LSG’s win have greatly boosted the playoff hopes for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). Gujarat Titans (GT) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) meet tonight in IPL 2026. Shubman Gill and his team stand just one win from securing a spot in the playoffs. KKR, placed eighth on the points table, need to win to keep their faint hopes alive. Meanwhile, defending champions, placed second on the points table, will need to win atleast one of the remaining two matches. RCB take on the Punjab Kings on 17 May and the Sunrisers Hyderabad on 22 May. Must-win situation for SRH, PBKS Although placed third with 14 points, the Sunrisers Hyderabad need to win both their remaining matches to guarantee a place in the playoffs. The Pat Cummins-led side has matches against the Chennai Super Kings (18 May) and against RCB (22 May). With 13 points, Punjab Kings (PBKS) are in fourth place. Shreyas Iyer and his men have lost five consecutive matches. Punjab now has matches against RCB (17 May) and LSG (23 May). To reach the playoffs, PBKS need to win both matches. Rajasthan move to fifth after CSK’s loss CSK’s loss is Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) gain. After the defeat to LSG, CSK have slipped to the sixth spot with RR going to the fifth place. The Riyan Parag-led team has 12 points and have three matches remaining- against Delhi Capitals (17 May), against Lucknow Super Giants (19 May) and against Mumbai Indians (24 May). Rajasthan Royals need to win all three matches to secure a spot in the playoffs. Faint hopes for KKR, DC Kolkata Knight Riders are in eighth place with nine points from 11 matches. A loss to the Gujarat Titans will knock KKR out of the competition. Delhi Capitals’ path is also difficult, with just 10 points from 12 matches and the worst net run rate (-0.993). DC will have to win both their matches by large margins. They will also have to depend on the results of other teams. Mumbai, already eliminated, are in ninth place with four wins and eight losses from 12 matches. Top Players of the Tournament Sai Sudharsan seven runs away from reclaiming Orange Cap No changes have occurred in the top three positions of the Orange Cap after the Lucknow vs Chennai match. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Heinrich Klaasen remains at the top with 508 runs, while Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan is in second place with 501 runs. Virat Kohli is at number three with 484 runs in 12 matches. In tonight’s match, Sudharsan will come to the top if he scores seven runs. Bhuvneshwar is the Purple Cap holder with 22 wickets Bengaluru’s fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar remains the highest wicket-taker in IPL 2026. He has 22 wickets in 12 matches. Gujarat’s Kagiso Rabada is in second place with 21 wickets. Chennai’s Anshul Kamboj is at number three with 19 wickets.
