A major breakthrough came on Thursday in the Twisha Sharma suicide case in Bhopal after police registered an FIR against her husband Samarth Singh and mother-in-law Giribala Singh, a retired district judge. The case has been filed under charges including murder and dowry harassment following allegations made by Twisha’s family. ACP Rajnish Kashyap Kaul confirmed that police teams are now conducting raids at multiple locations to trace the accused. Suicide inside Katara Hills residence The 31-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide on the night of May 12 at her residence in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal. According to police, Twisha was found hanging inside the house. Her family, however, has alleged continuous dowry harassment and physical abuse by her husband and in-laws. Twisha was originally from Noida and had married Samarth Singh nearly a year ago, on December 12, 2025. Her brother Harshit Sharma serves as a Major in the Indian Army. Family alleges signs of physical assault Twisha’s maternal family has claimed that injury marks were visible on her body, especially around her hands and ears. They alleged that these marks raised serious doubts over the circumstances surrounding her death. The family has levelled several accusations: Family members also accused Samarth Singh of destroying evidence after the incident. Protests continue outside police station Tension remained high outside Katara Hills police station on Wednesday night as Twisha’s relatives and supporters gathered demanding immediate legal action. Family members alleged that despite repeated pleas, police officials refused to respond and even shut the main gate of the police station. Police officials, however, maintained that officers were occupied with recording statements and completing procedural formalities. They stated that legal action could only proceed after the postmortem examination and witness statements. On Thursday, the protests intensified as Twisha’s relatives assembled outside the women’s police station carrying placards and demanding strict action against the accused. Brother alleges misuse of influence Twisha’s brother Major Harshit Sharma accused the police of delaying action because of the accused family’s legal and social influence. He said the family remained outside the police station until midnight but no senior officer came forward to speak with them. Last rites withheld until FIR registration Twisha’s family had refused to perform her last rites until a formal case was registered against the accused. They maintained that justice must begin with immediate police action. Now, after the FIR against Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh, the family is expected to carry out the final rites later on Friday. The case has drawn widespread attention in Bhopal, especially after reports revealed that Twisha was pregnant at the time of her death. Police investigation in the matter is currently underway.
