retired-judge’s-daughter-in-law-dies-by-suicide-in-bhopal:last-call-to-brother,-said-‘please-take-me-home’;-family-alleges-mental-harassment

A pregnant woman allegedly died by suicide at her in-laws’ house in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal. The woman’s family has accused her husband and in-laws of mentally harassing her. They also alleged that blue injury marks were found on her hands and ears. The deceased was identified as 31-year-old Twisha Sharma, originally a resident of Noida. She had married Bhopal-based lawyer Samarth Sharma around a year ago. Twisha’s brother Harshit Sharma, a Major in the Indian Army, said she had called the family on Tuesday night. According to him, she said her husband had been harassing her for the past eight days. She was allegedly being insulted over trivial issues and facing increasing mental harassment. He said Twisha had told the family that she wanted to leave Bhopal and return to her parental home. According to relatives, she had even booked tickets to travel to Noida before news of her death arrived. Mother-in-law informed about the death through a call to the maternal family The family alleged that shortly after speaking to Twisha, they received a call from her mother-in-law informing them that Twisha had died and was found hanging inside the house. Her family then rushed to Bhopal. Family alleges behaviour changed after she quit job Major Harshit alleged that everything was normal during the initial months of marriage, but the behaviour of the family changed after Twisha quit her job. He claimed she was taunted as “useless” and insulted over her upbringing and family background, which pushed her into depression. According to the family, Twisha had left her job after marriage because she had to shift to Bhopal. After moving, she did not want to take up another job, which allegedly became a reason for disputes with her husband. Tension over unplanned pregnancy also surfaces Another aspect has also emerged in the case. According to her brother, Twisha had an unplanned pregnancy in March. The family claimed she was not ready for a child at that time, but her in-laws were pressuring her to continue the pregnancy. Relatives alleged that her husband would taunt her over the issue and allegedly accuse her by saying, “The child is not mine, that’s why you want to abort it.” The family said such remarks were emotionally breaking her from within. No Suicide Note Found at Home The woman’s family has alleged that Twisha was physically assaulted after marriage. However, police said no suicide note has been found so far. No note was recovered during the search of the house either. After the incident, the body was sent for postmortem. Family members also reached the hospital on Wednesday. Police said the exact cause behind the death would become clear after the postmortem and forensic examination. Police Says – Action Will Be Taken After Statements Katara Hills police station in-charge Sunil Kumar Dubey said both the husband and mother-in-law were present at home at the time of the incident. They brought Twisha down from the hanging position and took her to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Police were informed by the hospital around 11 pm. Dubey said the body has been handed over to the family after postmortem, and further action will be taken after recording statements.
