A 23-year-old man allegedly set himself on fire after pouring petrol on himself in Tikamgarh district. The critically burnt youth was referred to Chhatarpur after primary treatment, where he later died. The incident took place on Tuesday night in Mahendra Mahewa village under Palera police station limits. According to Palera police station in-charge Preeti Bhargava, the deceased was identified as Rajaram Kushwaha. He allegedly took the extreme step a short distance away from his house. Seeing the flames, villagers and family members rushed to the spot. They somehow managed to douse the fire and took the severely burnt youth to Palera Health Centre. He was later referred to Chhatarpur for further treatment. He had been consuming alcohol for the past three days. Under the influence of alcohol, he set himself on fire. He had no dispute with anyone. He took this step in an intoxicated state. We used to advise him not to drink, but he did not listen.”
