The Special Sessions Court of Gwalior has ordered the registration of a case of dacoity, robbery, and conspiracy against the then Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajesh Chandel, then Thatipur Police Station In-charge Surendra Nath Singh, Sub Inspector Ajay Singh, and Head Constable Santosh Verma. The court has issued a summons to all the accused to appear personally on June 22, 2026. The case dates back to 2024. Complainant Anoop Rana had alleged in court that the policemen illegally extorted about 30 lakh rupees from his family. This case was under hearing in the court for the past two years, on which an order was pronounced on Monday. Advocate Ashok Prajapati, representing the complainant, has confirmed the matter. Complained, but was sent to jail instead According to the complainant’s side, a case of fraud was registered against Anoop Rana’s brother at the Thatipur police station, in which a compromise had been reached with the complainant. It is alleged that despite this, the police first took 5 lakh rupees and later started demanding more money. According to the argument presented in court, at the behest of the then Station House Officer Surendra Nath Singh, Constable Santosh Verma took 9.50 lakh rupees from Anoop Rana’s house and 15 lakh rupees from the house of a female accused involved in the case. Written complaint made to SP When Anoop Rana made a written complaint about this to the then SP Rajesh Chandel, instead of taking action, the case was sent back to Thatipur police station. It is alleged that after this, the police arrested Anoop Rana himself and sent him to jail. Following this, the complainant approached the court in 2024. Court strict on CCTV footage deletion During the hearing, the court had sought CCTV footage from Thatipur police station. In response, the police stated that footage before January 3, 2024, had been deleted. The court expressed strong displeasure at this response. The investigation by the Radio Superintendent of Police was also mentioned in the matter, in which show-cause notices had already been issued to the police station staff. The court also took this on record. Dispute started with job fraud case Police claim that this case is related to the investigation of a gang that defrauds people in the name of jobs, and Anoop Rana and his brother were part of the same racket. However, Anoop Rana says that he himself was a victim of fraud and had gone to the police station to help his brother, but the police made him the accused. It is alleged that the police extorted millions of rupees from him and his brother while protecting the accused.
