A female officer was allegedly threatened by Inder Singh Chauhan, brother of Cabinet Minister Nagar Singh Chauhan, who reportedly said, ‘I will break your teeth, I will bury you right here in the ground.’ The incident, which took place on April 22 at the Alirajpur Janpad Panchayat office, has left staff in fear. Those who witnessed or heard the incident are still shaken. The accused is currently out on bail, while the victim, Janpad CEO Priya Kag, has gone on leave. The office atmosphere remains tense and silent, with Ground Zero visits revealing a fearful environment rather than a functioning government office. Fear grips Janpad office It is 11 AM outside the Janpad Panchayat office, where a small ground is usually active but is silent now. Inside, the office has seating for 20–25 employees, but most chairs are empty. Those present are trying to finish work quickly and leave. When asked about the incident, a female employee turned away and said in a low voice, ‘I was on lunch, I don’t know anything.’ Accountant Sawan Bhide, who was present during the incident, folded his hands and walked away without responding. The atmosphere remains tense, with staff afraid to speak against the ‘influential’ name. Fraud of calling a married person ‘unmarried’ What was it that made the minister’s brother so furious? The matter concerns the Chief Minister Kanyadan Yojana (Daughter’s Marriage Scheme). Scheme’s math: The government provides 55 thousand rupees for one marriage. Out of this, 49 thousand rupees go directly to the bride’s account, and 6 thousand rupees are given to the organising institution. Reason for the dispute: For the mass marriage ceremony on May 6, some applications were received that already had a wedding invitation (card) attached. This means those couples had already gotten married. Obstacle: According to the rules, those who are married cannot avail the benefits of this scheme. When CEO Priya Kag rejected these fake applications, Minister’s brother Inder Singh Chauhan got furious. He wanted his acquaintances to receive these 49 thousand rupees, even if they were not eligible. 25 cases, but no conviction in even one Inder Singh Chauhan is no ordinary person. His brother Nagar Singh Chauhan is a cabinet minister in the state government. His sister-in-law is an MP, and his wife herself is the Janpad President. Inder Singh’s ‘crime graph’ is as big as his influence. 25 cases have been registered against him so far, but due to political influence, he has not been convicted in any. It is rumoured that he has assaulted employees and salesmen many times, but even cases were not allowed to be registered. His wife is the president in the district, but Inder Singh handles all the work, from files to ‘dealing’ with officials. Victim CEO said – I was doing my job District CEO Priya Kag, who is on leave, refused to say anything on camera. However, she said on the phone, I was just getting out of the car when Inder Singh started misbehaving. He was angry about the cancelled forms that already had wedding cards attached to them.I only said that applications from married individuals cannot be accepted. At this, they rushed to hit me and threatened to bury me alive. After the incident, Priya Kag has been provided with a gunman. However, she says that her leave is not related to this incident, but her family’s discomfort is clearly visible. CEO lacks experience, says accused On the other hand, Inder Singh Chauhan did not deny the incident, but called it ‘lack of experience’. He said – Alirajpur Janpad is my family. We have been organising mass marriages for years. There were some errors in the applications of poor people, which could have been corrected. The CEO is new, she lacks experience. This debate was just about the issues, which has been exaggerated. Collector’s response In this entire matter, the district head, Collector Neetu Mathur, has remained silent. When asked about the dispute, she only said, I cannot say anything, we don’t want to escalate the matter.
