In a major anti-corruption crackdown in Madhya Pradesh’s Barwani district, the Indore Lokayukta team on Thursday raided the Rajpur Community Health Center and arrested three doctors for allegedly taking bribes in exchange for referring patients to private pathology labs. The accused doctors — Medical Officer Dr Amit Shakya, Dr Divya Sai and contractual medical officer Dr Manohar Godara — were caught red-handed while accepting commission money from a pathology lab operator. The action followed a complaint filed by Adnan Ali, manager of Seva Pathology Lab in Rajpur, who alleged that doctors at the government hospital were demanding commissions for sending patients to his lab for medical tests. Doctors allegedly raised commission from 20% to 50% According to the complaint, the doctors had initially fixed a 20% commission for referrals but later increased the demand to 50% last month. Ali told Lokayukta officials that the doctors had started demanding hefty sums in return for patient referrals, prompting him to approach the Special Police Establishment (SPE), Lokayukta office in Indore on May 4, 2026. The complaint stated that Dr Amit Shakya allegedly demanded ₹18,000, Dr Divya Sai ₹8,000 and Dr Manohar Godara ₹21,800 as commission linked to tests conducted over the past month. Trap laid after complaint verification After receiving the complaint, the Lokayukta team verified the allegations and found them to be prima facie true. A trap operation was then planned. During negotiations, the doctors allegedly agreed to accept reduced amounts — ₹8,000 for Dr Amit Shakya, ₹5,000 for Dr Divya Sai and ₹12,000 for Dr Manohar Godara. On Thursday, a special Lokayukta trap team reached the hospital premises and monitored the transaction. As soon as the complainant handed over the money and the accused accepted it, officials arrested all three doctors on the spot. The raid triggered commotion inside the community health centre as Lokayukta officers questioned the accused and completed formalities. Case registered under anti-corruption laws Lokayukta officials said cases have been registered against the three accused under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, along with Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Further investigation is underway. The trap team included DSP Sunil Talan, acting inspector Renu Agrawal, acting head constables Pramod Yadav and Vivek Mishra, constables Chandramohan Bisht, Rameshwar Ningwal, Kamlesh Parihar, Ashish Naidu, Krishna Ahirwar, Shersingh, Prabhat More, women constable Jahnavi Senger and Janu Vaskel.
