Akshaya Tritiya is being celebrated on April 19 and 20 this year, and the auspicious timing has led to a surge in weddings across Gwalior. More than 600 marriages were solemnized on Sunday alone. Among them, 73 couples tied the knot at a mass wedding ceremony held at the Dabra Mandi premises under the Chief Minister Kanyadan and Nikah Scheme. Multi-faith mass wedding ceremony in Dabra The Dabra ceremony saw marriages conducted according to different religious traditions. Out of the 73 couples: The event was organized under a government scheme aimed at supporting economically weaker families. Over 700 weddings expected today On Monday, more than 700 weddings are expected to take place across Gwalior. Around 100 of these will be part of mass wedding ceremonies organized by different communities, including the Kirar Kshatriya Samaj, Brahmin Samaj, and Kushwaha Samaj. Kushwaha community: 33 couples to marry The Kushwaha Samaj Adarsh Marriage Organizing Committee will conduct weddings for 33 couples at Neem Chandoha Bela ki Bawdi on Shivpuri Link Road. Committee member Kailash Singh Kushwaha said this is their 31st event. Newly married couples will also receive complete household kits as gifts. Kirar community event in Murar The Kirar Mass Wedding Committee will organize its 17th mass wedding event at the Ramlila Ground in Murar, where 31 couples will get married. The event is expected to be attended by prominent community leaders, including former national president of the All India Kirar Kshatriya Mahasabha, Dr. Gulab Singh Kirar, former minister Lakhan Singh Yadav, and BJP rural district president Prem Singh Rajput. Brahmin Mahasabha to host free wedding ceremony The All Brahmin Mahasabha is organizing its fourth free mass wedding ceremony. A wedding procession will begin from Ram Temple, Phalka Bazaar, accompanied by a Parshuram palanquin procession. Seven couples will tie the knot at Sanatan Dharma Temple. The newlyweds will be given gifts including a refrigerator, washing machine, wardrobe, television, cooler, bed, gas stove, utensils, jewelry set, clothes, blankets, fan, mixer, induction stove, and other household items. Administration on high alert to prevent child marriages To prevent child marriages during Akshaya Tritiya, the district administration has put strict measures in place. Under the direction of Collector Ruchika Chauhan, monitoring has been intensified across the district. A district-level control room (0751-2990969) is operational 24 hours a day, and flying squads have been deployed to take action in suspicious cases. Strict instructions to service providers The administration has issued instructions to band operators, caterers, tent house owners, and printing press operators to verify the age proof of both bride and groom before any wedding arrangement. Anganwadi workers have also been directed to keep a close watch on families where child marriages are suspected. Public appeal to report child marriages The district administration has urged citizens to help eliminate the social evil of child marriage. People are encouraged to report any suspicious cases immediately to the control room or Child Helpline 1098. Authorities have assured that the identity of informants will be kept confidential.
