A 25-year-old woman allegedly staged a fake robbery after losing ₹5 lakh in online games and falling into debt in Gwalior. She conspired with her minor brother to execute the incident and later filed a complaint at the police station. The plan was uncovered within hours. The accused had even planned to disguise themselves in women’s clothes during the crime, but did not get the time. Two sets of women’s clothing were later recovered from the scooter’s storage. Suicide attempt drama inside police station After her brother was detained, the woman allegedly attempted to create a scene at the police station to save him. She ordered a bottle of phenyl online and consumed it in front of officers at Bahodapur police station. Police immediately intervened, made her vomit, and ensured her safety. She has not yet been formally arrested. Addiction to online games led to debt The woman, a resident of the Purani Chhawani area, had developed an addiction to online money games. She initially invested ₹10,000 and made a profit of ₹8,000, which encouraged her to continue. Eventually, she lost ₹5 lakh and fell into debt. She had mortgaged 10 tolas of gold (worth around ₹15 lakh) with a finance company and insured it. The fake robbery was planned to claim the insurance amount. Crime inspired by TV shows Police said the woman drew inspiration from crime-based television shows. To repay her debt, she plotted the robbery with her brother and his friend. On Saturday afternoon around 2 pm, she took the gold from a loan company and was heading to another finance office when the staged snatching occurred near an ATM square in Bahodapur. Robbery scene recreated, but quickly unraveled According to the complaint, two men on a scooter snatched a bag containing gold jewelry. However, inconsistencies in her statement and CCTV evidence led police to uncover the truth. Call records showed frequent communication between the woman and her brother before the incident. During questioning, the minor confessed to committing the staged robbery with his friend. Police also revealed that the woman had previously been jailed in a stabbing case.
