Two men accused in the Berchha forest gangrape case were assaulted by a group of lawyers inside the Mhow court premises on Saturday, triggering chaos at the venue. The attack took place in the presence of police personnel as the accused were brought for their court appearance. Police officials present at the scene intervened promptly and managed to rescue the accused, escorting them into the courtroom. Despite the heavy security presence, officials faced considerable difficulty in controlling the situation. Assault and alleged crime Police said the accused allegedly assaulted the survivor’s companion before committing the crime in the forest area. They reportedly fled the scene after issuing threats. Arrest after SIT probe Indore Rural Police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case. Based on search operations, local intelligence, and CCTV footage, both accused were arrested from the Manpur police station area. The accused have been identified as Mahendra and Pintu, residents of the same area. During questioning, they allegedly confessed and indicated they targeted people in isolated locations.
