Two men died of suspected suffocation inside an empty water tanker in the Garhi Malhara area of Chhatarpur district on Saturday. The deceased have been identified as Gulab Anuragi (22) and Armaan Khan (23), both residents of Maharajpur. Found unconscious inside tanker The incident came to light between 4:30 pm and 5 pm when the two were found unconscious inside the tanker. A local welding garage operator, Sachin Patel, pulled them out and rushed them to a private hospital on Mahoba Road, from where they were referred to the district hospital. At the district hospital, emergency doctor Abhay Singh declared both of them dead. Suffocation suspected during painting work According to family members, Gulab worked as a painter and was painting the inside of the tanker at the garage. It is suspected that fumes from thinner and other chemicals accumulated inside the enclosed space, causing him to lose consciousness. Armaan reportedly entered the tanker to rescue him but was also overcome by the toxic fumes. Possibility of electric shock also being examined Hospital staff noted that both bodies appeared stiff and had marks resembling burns at several places. Armaan’s hands were particularly affected, raising the possibility of an electric shock. However, the exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed. Family alleges misleading information Armaan’s brother Salman alleged that the family was initially informed that the incident was a road accident. However, upon reaching the garage, they found both victims lying inside the tanker. Investigation underway The bodies have been kept in the district hospital mortuary, and a postmortem examination will be conducted on Sunday to determine the exact cause of death. Station House Officer Rita Singh said that, prima facie, the deaths appear to have occurred due to suffocation while painting inside the tanker. A detailed investigation is underway, and further action will be taken based on postmortem findings.
