A state-of-the-art transplant facility has been prepared at AIIMS in the capital, where five transplants can be performed simultaneously and the state’s first lung transplant will also be conducted here. This unit may become operational by the last week of April. After this, critical patients will not need to go to other cities for treatment. This high-tech transplant unit has been built on the entire floor above the trauma unit at AIIMS Bhopal. Lung, heart, kidney and liver transplants can be performed at the same place here. For this, a surgical team, anesthesia specialists, cardiothoracic surgeons, pulmonologists and critical care unit team have been prepared. According to Medical Superintendent Dr. Vikas Gupta, preparations for lung transplant are complete and a patient is being identified. Advanced machines installed in the unit; specialist team and preparations complete The unit is being equipped with advanced technology such as heart-lung machine, IABP and ECMO machine. The heart-lung machine works like an artificial heart and the ECMO machine works like artificial lungs, which helps keep the patient’s organs stable during transplant. Recently, the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization team conducted an inspection and evaluated the machines, operation theater and team of specialists here. Lung transplant is complex, an option for last-stage patients Lung transplant is a complex surgery in which damaged lungs are removed and healthy lungs from a donor are implanted. This procedure is performed for patients with end-stage lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis, COPD and severe infections, when other treatments don’t work. No need to go outside, expenses and waiting will reduce Until now, patients had to go to Chennai, Delhi or Hyderabad for lung transplants. Long distance, high expenses and waiting were major problems. After the facility starts at AIIMS, patients from the state and nearby states will be able to get treatment here itself. Waiting for liver transplant permission AIIMS is yet to receive permission for liver transplant. After this, it will be the first institution in the state where heart, kidney, lungs and liver transplants can be done under one roof. AIIMS Bhopal is the first such institution in the state where three heart transplants have been done so far. Dr. Vikas Gupta, Medical Superintendent, AIIMS Bhopal said, ‘The work of the transplant unit is in the final stage. After receiving permission for lung transplant, the preparation is complete. The patient is being identified. Soon we will perform the first lung transplant.’ Post navigation Heat wave alert in 20 districts of Madhya Pradesh:Narmadapuram records 43°C; rain forecast for April 19–20 Retired SDO booked in disproportionate assets case:EOW raid unearths crores worth of property, investments, and bank accounts
