A part of an under-construction elevated corridor in Gwalior collapsed on Thursday afternoon, leaving one labourer injured. The incident took place around 4 pm near Khedapati Temple in Khedapati Colony. According to officials, a 35-foot-long cement girder was being placed on the structure when it suddenly lost balance and fell into a nearby drain. A loud sound was heard across the area, causing panic among local residents. Workers were present at the site when the girder fell. One labourer was injured and rushed to hospital for treatment. See pictures of the accident… Officials, minister reach spot Soon after the incident, administrative officials reached the site to assess the situation. State Energy Minister Pradyumna Singh Tomar also visited the spot and reviewed the situation. He said the incident could have turned into a major accident and assured that a fair investigation would be conducted. Action will be taken against those found responsible, he added. Project worth ₹1300 crore The elevated corridor is being built at an estimated cost of ₹1,300 crore and is considered a key project linked to Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. Officials said the route had already been closed due to construction work. Had the road been open, the accident could have been more serious. Congress questions construction quality Congress leader Sunil Sharma raised concerns over the quality of construction and alleged negligence. He said the route is usually busy and the incident could have led to a bigger tragedy if traffic had been allowed. Safety lapses alleged by eyewitness An eyewitness, Golu Kushwaha, claimed that workers were operating without proper safety gear, including helmets. He said a worker standing on the structure had to jump down to save his life when the girder began to fall. Scindia had inspected project earlier Earlier on April 7, Jyotiraditya Scindia had inspected the elevated corridor project. During the visit, he reportedly ran along a section of the road, with officials and supporters following him.
