Read in this report… Escaped from child care center, but were caught On October 1, 2016, two girls aged 15-16 years suddenly escaped from a child care center in Shivpuri. On information from the operator, the police registered a missing complaint and immediately started the search and alerted nearby police stations, bus stands and railway stations. The girls had neither money nor phones, so they were soon recovered from Ashok Nagar. But the real story came to light when the police brought them back to Shivpuri and sent them to the Child Home. Both girls were scared and did not want to go back to the ashram. Orphan and minor girls were kept there Madhav Bal Ashram, located in Patel Nagar in the heart of the city, provided shelter to orphan girls. Minor girls recovered by the police were also kept here. The ashram was run by social worker and advocate Shaila Agrawal along with her father KN Agrawal. In 1997, their organization received permission to run a children’s home and in 2016, 23 girls were living here. Director’s High Connections and Government Support The director of the ashram, Shaila Agarwal, was known as an influential social worker. Many senior officials including SP, Collector, and leaders used to participate in the ashram’s programs. During events like Rakshabandhan, officials would also get rakhis tied by the girls. Girl’s Silence During Counseling Deepened Suspicion Child counselor Uma Mishra had good relations with Shaila Agarwal. On October 12, she reached the ashram for counseling the girls. During the conversation, she found the atmosphere suspicious. One girl indicated through gestures that everything is not right here and there is beating if the truth is told. Just then Shaila arrived there, so the girl became silent, but Uma sensed something was wrong. On October 13, Uma gave this information to Child Welfare Committee Chairman Jinendra Jain and other members. During this time, the parents of a runaway girl arrived to take her. During counseling, that girl made several shocking revelations. Pain in private parts upon waking up in the morning During counseling, the girl revealed the hellish atmosphere of the children’s home. She told that here all walls of shame and modesty have broken down. Molestation and rape of girls at night has become commonplace. Beatings also occurred in the ashram upon refusal The second girl who escaped from the ashram said that one night after dinner when she fell asleep, someone pulled her blouse in the darkness and it tore. When she refused while crying, she was beaten, abused and told – ‘Who are you to be good, you have come after sleeping with so many boys.’ In the children’s home, girls’ clothes were often found open, no one could understand. Intoxicating substances were mixed in the dinner, which caused a state of unconsciousness. Collector and SP were immediately informed Hearing this, Uma was stunnedas if the ground had slipped from beneath her feet. She could not believe that the ashram which was considered a safe haven for girls, where they were sent for protection, was the very place where such inhuman acts were being committed against them. The matter was extremely serious. Without delay, Uma informed her senior officers about it. Counseling of other girls also started immediately As soon as the information was received, the entire administration was shocked. Where often senior officials, businessmen and public representatives used to attend various programs, such horrific incidents coming to light there was shocking for everyone. The police showed promptness and immediately conducted a raid and also started counseling of other girls in the ashram, so that the complete truth could come out. Now these questions were before the administration Answers to these questions will be revealed tomorrow in Part-2 of Crime Files…… Post navigation Protest against Ken-Betwa project intensifies in Chhatarpur:Villagers announce symbolic hanging; Jal, mitti, and chita protests held simultaneously 9-year old boy dies after bee attack:Child left untreated for 30 minutes; notice issued to school, probe ordered
