The district administration in Bhopal on Monday resumed its action to clear encroachments from around the Upper Lake (Bada Talab). A team from the TT Nagar SDM circle reached Sewaniya and Gaura villages, where several permanent structures, including boundary walls, were found within the lake’s restricted area. These constructions were demolished using JCB machines. The operation was conducted under the supervision of SDM Archana Sharma and Tehsildar Kunal Rawat. Police personnel were also deployed at the site to maintain order and prevent any disturbance during the drive. The demolition continued till afternoon, during which more than half a dozen encroachments were removed. Officials said that the administration has identified a total of 347 encroachments around the lake, which are planned to be removed within the next 15 days. It has also been clarified that all constructions built after the implementation of the Bhoj Wetland Rules on 16 March 2022 will be demolished. Action is being taken against encroachments within 50 metres of the Full Tank Level (FTL) of the Upper Lake. The highest number of illegal constructions were found in Gaura village and Bisenkhedi under the TT Nagar SDM circle. Encroachments have also been reported in Bairagarh and Baheta areas, where structures have been built along the lake boundary. Which day, where will action be taken? Most encroachments in villages Officials said that Gaura village and Bisenkhedi have seen the highest level of encroachment under the TT Nagar SDM circle. Significant illegal constructions have also been found in Bairagarh and Baheta. During demarcation in the Van Vihar National Park area, more than 100 pillars were reportedly installed across a 2.5 km stretch. Experts believe these constructions may be in violation of wetland regulations. Preparation to take the matter to NGT Environmental activist Rashid Noor stated that the issue is serious and is likely to be taken up before the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for further action.
