‘You’re dark, don’t deserve me’:Woman hires killers with lover to murder businessman husband; sister-in-law reveals chilling truth

You are dark… I am not happy with you… I deserve someone else… These words were not just taunts for Dev Krishna Purohit, but the sound of a breaking relationship, whose end would be so horrifying no one had imagined. Dev Krishna’s sister Jyoti says that sister-in-law Priyanka often humiliated her brother in this manner. Sometimes taunting him for not taking her out, sometimes accusing him of not fulfilling her wishes. Later she would say “I said it in anger.” But the hatred and distance hidden behind those words gradually deepened. On the intervening night of Monday-Tuesday, spice trader Dev Krishna Purohit (29) was brutally murdered in village Gondikheda Charan in Rajod police station area of Sardarpur tehsil in Dhar. According to police, the mastermind of this sensational murder is Dev Krishna’s wife Priyanka (27) and her lover Kamlesh Purohit (35), resident of Rajgarh. Both are in police custody. Meanwhile, Kamlesh’s accomplice and the murderer, notorious criminal Surendra Bhati, is absconding. The Dainik Bhaskar team reached Dev Krishna’s village to understand the story behind this sensational murder case. They spoke with his mother, sister, and villagers. They had brought Priyanka home as their daughter-in-law, and the question arising in their minds is how could she be like this. Dev Krishna’s elder uncle Laxman Purohit, who currently lives in Petlawad and is a timekeeper in the Water Resources Department, said that Dev Krishna’s father was a grocery merchant. He used to bring grocery items from Indore and run a shop in the village. On January 26, 1999, he had gone to Indore, where he died under suspicious circumstances. Devkrishna was born in 1997, just two years before his death. Everyone in the family used to call him Bhaiyyu. After my brother’s death, all of us family members raised Devkrishna. We fulfilled all needs from household expenses to school fees and other requirements. On April 1, 2015, Devkrishna was married to Priyanka, a resident of village Pannakhedi in Maharashtra. My elder daughter Sadhana was married to Priyanka’s brother. Due to this reason, Priyanka’s relationship with Devkrishna was arranged. Due to her young age, even after marriage, Priyanka was allowed to stay at her maternal home. After 5 years, in 2020, Priyanka came to her in-laws’ house. Priyanka stayed less at her in-laws’ place and more at her maternal home. She used to quarrel every day, but we never thought that she would do such a horrific thing. Sister said- When I looked down, there was blood everywhere Jyoti, the younger sister of deceased Devkrishna, said that among us 3 siblings, the eldest sister Sadhana is married in the village itself. Devkrishna was older than me. He always believed in working hard and moving forward. Sister Jyoti said that on Monday-Tuesday night she was in deep sleep. Suddenly mom woke me up saying that brother and sister-in-law might have had a fight. I went to brother’s room with mom and brother was lying on the bed. It seemed like he was sleeping. Mom went outside. When I looked down, there was blood everywhere. Sister-in-law’s hands were tied with her own saree. Sister-in-law had returned from her maternal home with conditions Jyoti made several shocking revelations. She told that sister-in-law liked to stay alone. She remained engrossed in her mobile phone all day. She wouldn’t give her mobile to anyone. She didn’t give time to brother either. Sister-in-law used to tell brother that You are dark, you don’t wear good clothes, I am not happy with you. Someone else deserves me. You give me a divorce. You don’t take me out, what wish of mine have you fulfilled. When we told her family after being very troubled, they said – small things keep happening at home. Husband and wife keep fighting. You don’t say anything to her. Daughter-in-law had been having an affair with Kamlesh for a long time The mother says that Kamlesh and the daughter-in-law had been having an affair for a long time. From the day her feet stepped on our threshold, we haven’t lived in peace for a single day. When she lived here, she would quarrel. When she stayed at her maternal home, she would call and fight with my son. Once she even got into a physical altercation with my son. She stayed at her maternal home for about three years. The community members held a meeting, and then she returned. She was most irritated by my daughter. My daughter is educated, and she was afraid that she might expose her misdeeds through the phone. That’s why she once beat up my daughter as well. My son was very troubled by her. Fear that if daughter-in-law did something drastic, we would all be in trouble Uncle Ramlal Purohit says that Dev used to tell that his wife’s behavior was not right. We would explain that the girl is difficult, if she does something drastic then everyone will be in trouble. Due to this fear, we used to tell him to keep his wife under control by counseling her. Nathu Lal Purohit, a resident of the village, said – Dev was a very calm boy. After his father’s death, he took responsibility of the household along with studies. He never fought with anyone in the village. What Priyanka did was wrong. She has defamed the society and the village. After the murder, a signal was given, then Priyanka screamed SP Mayank Awasthi said that on Monday night, information was received about the murder of spice trader Devkrishna Purohit in Gondikheda village of Sardarpur police station area in Dhar district. It was reported that Purohit was sleeping with his wife at night. His mother and sister were sleeping in another room. The criminals who entered with the intention of robbery took the wife hostage and took her to another room. Meanwhile, they killed the husband by attacking him with a sharp weapon. After the incident, they fled with the looted items. As soon as the information was received, the police team started the investigation. The wife’s statement raised suspicion. When inquiries were made in the neighborhood about the matter, a lot was revealed about the wife. The relationship between Dev and his wife was quite strained. They had been married for 11 years, but she stayed at her in-laws’ house very rarely. When questioned strictly, she confessed to the crime and revealed that she had a relationship with Kamlesh Purohit, a resident of Rajgarh. Her husband would quarrel with her daily over this matter and oppose it. A murder conspiracy was hatched to remove her husband from the way. In the conspiracy, her lover gave his friend Surendra a ransom of ?100,000. A murder plan was also made. As per that plan, I kept the door open at night. Kamlesh and Surendra entered the house and murdered Dev, who was sleeping on the bed, with a sharp weapon. The woman revealed that according to the planning – after committing the murder, upon receiving a signal, after about 10 to 15 minutes, I screamed and people gathered. I told them where my husband was sleeping, and as per the planning, I went to another room. The attack on my husband happened while he was sleeping. Police arrested the accused wife and her lover.Two statements that raised suspicion on Priyanka In the initial police investigation itself, Priyanka kept misleading the police by fabricating stories. She first told the police that the accused climbed onto the roof from the fence behind the house and jumped inside the house and entered through the door that was open for ventilation. This theory did not fit accurately with the geographical situation, because climbing from the roof and jumping inside was not so easy at night. On the other hand, Priyanka said that a cloth was tied over her mouth and she was taken to a separate room, whereas Priyanka was sitting right next to the deceased and the main door of the house was open. According to the deceased’s sister, Priyanka’s hands were tied only with her own saree. They were also tied in an easy manner. Accused Kamlesh is father of two children Investigation revealed that Kamlesh’s marriage took place in Priyanka’s village itself. Due to this, he used to come and go. Priyanka got married in 2015. In 2017, she came in contact with Kamlesh, a resident of Rajgarh. This is where the affair between the two began. When Priyanka came to her in-laws’ place, Kamlesh started visiting her village. The investigation has also revealed that Kamlesh is the father of two children. He was a dhaba operator. Gave 50 thousand advance, was to kill on April 4 The investigation revealed that Surendra, who carried out the crime, is a notorious criminal. He has served 4 years in jail in the 2020 Mumbai shooting case. He is also wanted in a robbery that took place in Kukshi in 2025. Kamlesh knew Surendra well, so he assigned him this job. Priyanka was at her maternal home. She returned to her in-laws’ house and on March 31, struck a deal to murder her husband Dev for 1 lakh rupees. The deal to eliminate him was made for April 4. Criminal Surendra was also given 50 thousand as advance. When Surendra didn’t arrive on the 4th, Kamlesh and Priyanka demanded their money back. Surendra asked to complete the work and according to the plan, reached Dev’s house with Kamlesh on the night of April 7th. Here Kamlesh stood guard outside while Surendra went inside. Later, in Kamlesh’s presence, Surendra committed the murder and both escaped from there. Priyanka had staged a drama of theft of jewelry worth 3 lakhs and 50 thousand rupees. The police have recovered the jewelry and money from the house. Dhar SP Mayank Awasthi said that the wife and her lover committed the murder due to an affair. They were not given sleeping pills at the time of killing. This is a matter of investigation. Viscera has been taken for examination.
