gwalior-mla-submits-memorandum-to-scindia:urges-proper-survey-of-crops-damaged-by-unseasonal-rainfall-in-multiple-villages

Heavy damage has been reported to farmers’ crops in Gwalior rural areas following unseasonal rainfall, hail, and strong winds. On Monday, Gwalior Rural MLA Sahab Singh Gurjar, accompanied by his supporters, visited the Collectorate and submitted a memorandum to Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, bringing along samples of the damaged crops. The memorandum stated that the storm, rain, and hail on 4 April destroyed crops across several villages in the assembly constituency, including Swari, Ikhara, Sirsod, Deyli, Chak Sheetalpur, Sikrauda, and Benipur. Both standing and harvested crops were ruined in the fields. The natural calamity has caused significant financial losses for farmers, putting their livelihoods at risk. Since crops are the primary source of income, their destruction has left farmers facing severe economic hardships. The memorandum also referred to a 2015 survey that recorded only 25% of the losses, which falls outside the scope of compensation, whereas farmers have suffered much more. The MLA expressed concern that the authorities are not taking farmers’ losses seriously and urged a proper survey this time to ensure that the farmers receive the compensation they rightfully deserve.
