Three-storey building collapses in Ujjain:Mishap during demolition by JCB; residents allege negligence

On Monday evening, a three-storey building suddenly collapsed in the Gebi Hanuman area of Ujjain. The building owners, Manoj Bhawsar and Ali Ajgar, alleged that the mishap occurred due to negligence by the municipal corporation. A live video of the collapse has also surfaced. The building had been at risk of collapsing since around 6 pm. During this time, Mohammad Amir, Sameer Khan, Altamash Khan, Rajesh Gupta, Sameer Jain, and Avinash Panchal’s team helped residents block the main road leading to Mahakal Temple, preventing a major accident. Residents claimed that the collapse was caused by demolition work being carried out with an excavator in the area. They added that water had been accumulating in the building’s foundation for about a month, which likely contributed to the incident. Around 7 pm, the building finally collapsed. Authorities say that if traffic had been flowing at that moment, the accident could have been much worse. Collapse triggered by excavator demolition The building’s condition had worsened since around 6 pm, prompting locals to clear the road as a precaution. Owners Bhawsar and Ajgar, along with residents, alleged that demolition using an excavator caused the collapse, alongside water accumulation in the foundation over the past month. Municipal Corporation: Demolition conducted safely According to the municipal corporation, the dilapidated building on Dhaba Road was being safely removed as part of a road-widening project. The operation was conducted under official supervision with proper barricading. CSP officials confirmed that no casualties occurred. Police and municipal teams are present at the site to clear debris.
