A month and a half ago in Indore, a woman writer from Karnataka was beaten up after being mistaken for a child kidnapper. The writer’s only fault was that she had come to write a book on ‘triple talaq’. Since the beating, the writer has been continuously appealing to the Karnataka police for justice, but so far she has not achieved success. In the case of assault on Parveen, a writer from Karnataka, on February 15 in the Khajrana area, an FIR has still not been registered. The writer says that a mob beat her up, calling her a child kidnapper, and a compromise was arranged at the police station. Since returning to Karnataka, she has been continuously filing online complaints, but the police have not taken any concrete action. Mob beat her up, calling her a child kidnapper According to writer Parveen, on February 15, a mob assaulted her in Secunderabad Colony. People surrounded her, thinking she was a child kidnapper, and beat her while tearing her clothes. After the incident, when she filed a complaint at the police station, people from the accused side pressured her to prevent the FIR from being registered. It is alleged that she was made to write an apology letter and was released after videos were deleted from her mobile. On February 16, she returned to Karnataka and contacted the police online from there, but no hearing took place. Controversy related to writing a book on ‘Triple Talaq’ Parveen stated that in November 2025, she came to know about the famous triple talaq case related to Shahbano through social media. She decided to write a book on this. Through social media, she contacted Shahbano’s family, and conversations continued for about three months. After this, she came to Indore by flight on February 13. On February 14, she met with members of Shahbano’s family in Old Palasia. It is alleged that a demand of ₹25 lakh was made for providing family information. When the author refused, an agreement was sent on WhatsApp, which had a condition of giving 50 percent profit. The author agreed to this. Dispute started after recording On February 15, the writer reached Parveen Shahbano’s house and recorded a conversation for about two hours. After this, family members were asked to sign an agreement. The writer says that the agreement was different from the conditions stated earlier, so she refused to sign. At this, a young man present there abused her and tore the agreement and threw it on her face. According to the writer, when she left from there and was going by auto, the dispute escalated, and she was beaten up. During this, the crowd started beating her, calling her a child thief. Allegation of compromise at the police station The writer alleged that the police arrived at the spot, and a policeman named Mehmood Khan took her to the police station in a vehicle. There, both her mobile phones were kept with them. Later, she was allowed to contact her family, after which lawyer Ashish Dubey reached the police station. The writer alleges that a demand of ₹2 lakh was made in exchange for compromise. When she refused, an argument ensued, and the approximately two-hour recording made with Shahbano was deleted. After this, a written apology was taken from her, and she was released after making her write that no further action would be taken. Complaint after video went viral The author said that upon reaching Karnataka the next day, she came to know that the video of the assault had been made viral on social media. After this, she contacted Khajrana police and demanded action, but did not get a clear response. Since then, she has been continuously demanding action from the Indore police. The author said that, along with writing books, she teaches coaching to children. Her father is retired from government service. She says that she has been continuously contacting police officials for the past two months, but no concrete action has been taken in the matter so far.
