Last year in October, a 100-meter approach road from the Sukhi Sewania Railway Over Bridge located in Bilkhiria had collapsed. The repair work for parts of this approach road and ROB is currently underway. Due to the ongoing work there, the route has been diverted. This has created a new danger in the city. At night, heavy vehicles are now passing directly through the city. The situation is that the cable-stayed bridge built along the Big Lake and VIP Road, which were not designed for such traffic, are experiencing truck movement throughout the night. If we talk about design load, bridges within the city are designed in such a way that if a truck of up to 50 tons passes occasionally, there is no problem. But if this happens continuously, there could be a danger. Approximately 20,000 heavy vehicles that pass through the Eastern Bypass are now entering the city. This diversion has been in effect since the approach road of the Sukhi Sewania Railway Overbridge near Bilkhiria collapsed. The repair work may take another two and a half months. Increased Structural Risk on Bridges and Roads According to structural engineer Dr Shailendra Bagre, this entire corridor is not designed for continuous heavy traffic. Moving trucks put dynamic load on bridges, creating jerks. This effect is more sensitive in cable-stayed bridges. In such a situation, the risk has increased on all three: structure, road geometry, and safety. Trailers can get stuck or overturn on turns. If this happens, it will affect the lake and the environment. Risk on these flyovers too Habibganj’s Savarkar Setu is not safe for large trailers due to its S-curve. Also, there is a risk of heavy vehicles getting stuck on the GG flyover. Instructions to divert heavy traffic DCP Traffic Jitendra Singh Pawar said that police stations have been instructed to prevent heavy traffic from entering the city. Divert it via Ayodhya Bypass and Ratibad Outer.
