A priest at Achaleshwar Temple in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, allegedly assaulted a devotee following a dispute over offering prasad. The accused reportedly locked the man inside a room at Natraj Bhavan, slapped him, grabbed him by the throat and pushed him forcefully. The entire incident was captured on CCTV. The case falls under the Kampu police station area. According to police information, the victim, Rajesh Bohra (54), a resident of Laxmiganj Lashkar, has alleged that the priest also threatened to kill him. Fearing for his life, Bohra and his family have sought police protection. Police said further action will be taken based on the complaint and CCTV evidence. According to the victim, Rajesh Bohra (54), he has been visiting the temple for over 40 years. On March 29, he went there for worship and handed over prasad to priest Gagan Katare for offering. He alleged that the priest flung the prasad towards the deity. Taken to Natraj Bhavan, beaten after objection When Bohra objected and asked the priest to offer the prasad properly, it allegedly angered him. The priest misbehaved and instructed temple staff to take Bohra to Natraj Bhavan and “set him right”. An argument followed inside the temple premises, during which the priest allegedly abused him. Bohra was then dragged to Natraj Bhavan, where priest Gaurav Katare allegedly assaulted him, pushed and shoved him. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the premises. Threat of tantric harm, family in fear Bohra further alleged that priest Gaurav Katare threatened him with severe consequences, claiming he would “reduce him to ashes through tantric rituals” and that he would “die rotting”. The victim said he has been facing continuous harassment and that he and his family are living in fear. Police yet to receive formal complaint CSP Manish Yadav said that no formal complaint has been received so far. He added that once an application is submitted, the matter will be investigated and appropriate legal action will be taken if the allegations are found to be true.
