‘pen-down-strike’-at-hamidia-for-second-consecutive-day:medical-teachers-oppose-direct-recruitment,-demand-promotions-through-dpc

The movement of medical teachers against ‘direct recruitment’ at Gandhi Medical College (GMC), Bhopal, is set to intensify for the second consecutive day. All medical teachers will conduct a one-hour work stoppage protest from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Block-2 porch of Hamidia Hospital. The teachers have taken a clear resolution that if the recruitment notification is not immediately cancelled, this movement will be progressively increased day by day. Earlier, a one-hour ‘pen down’ protest was also conducted, in which a large number of doctors participated. The association alleges that by implementing direct recruitment for promotion posts, injustice is being done to years of service and seniority. On Tuesday, a one-hour ‘pen down’ movement was held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the call of the Medical Teachers Association (MTA). During this time, a large number of doctors and faculty members gathered at the admin block of GMC. Raising slogans against the Dean’s office and the government, they expressed opposition to the direct recruitment process. Heads of departments, professors, associate professors, assistant professors, demonstrators, and medical officers from all departments of GMC are participating in this movement in large numbers. Objection to direct recruitment, demand for promotion through DPC
Medical teachers say that eligible teachers who have been working for years should be promoted through DPC (Departmental Promotion Committee), but instead, an advertisement for direct recruitment has been issued. According to the association, this decision is contrary to the rules and will affect the rights of experienced teachers. Issue of seniority and financial loss
The association alleges that if direct recruitment is implemented, the years of service of current teachers will become null and void. This will directly impact gratuity, NPS, salary increments and future pension benefits. Teachers have called this an injustice to their careers and financial security. Boycott letters submitted to the Principal
Union Vice President Dr. J.P. Agrawal stated that in the executive meeting held a day earlier, more than 42 office bearers unanimously opposed this recruitment. Following this, eligible teachers also personally submitted boycott letters to the Principal. If the notification is not cancelled, the agitation will be intensified daily. General Secretary Dr. Avinash Thakur said that if the administration does not immediately cancel the direct recruitment notification, the movement will be further intensified. Meanwhile, President Dr. Rakesh Malviya said that no compromise will be made with the experience and seniority of medical teachers. If necessary, a complete work boycott will also be carried out.
