In Gwalior, BJP councillor Arpana Patil, angry over delay in road construction, sat on a pothole on the road in protest against the municipal government. She accused the government of ignoring development works and warned that if the road construction does not begin within 10 days, a major protest will be held at the municipal corporation headquarters. In Gwalior, the municipal corporation is governed by Congress. Arpana Patil is a councillor from Ward-58 on a BJP ticket and is upset over the delay in construction of the road in Basant Vihar Colony. She alleged that the municipal government is neglecting development work. Patil recalled that she had earlier protested for the road and had even spoken of shedding blood over the issue. After that, the road construction process was started but later stopped. Sat on the road for one hour Angry over the issue, the councillor sat in a pothole on the road for about an hour, while vehicles continued to pass around her. During this time, residents of the colony also reached the spot. They termed the demand justified and said they would support the councillor’s protest. Tender is done, then what’s the obstacle The councillor said that the colony road is in a poor condition, with people falling and getting injured, yet the municipal government is not concerned. She said all formalities for the road construction have been completed, including the tender process, but questioned why the work has still not started. She said she sat on the road to show the condition of the potholes to the authorities. Municipal government does not care about public She alleged that the municipal government does not care about the public, which is why the road construction has not started despite repeated protests. She said the government is ignoring the potholes. Calling it an initial protest, she warned that if work does not begin within 10 days, a major agitation will be launched at the municipal corporation headquarters. Road has been in bad condition for two years Resident Shashibhushan Rai said the road has been in poor condition for the past two years, leading to frequent accidents. Bike riders often fall and get injured, while dust from the road is causing trouble to residents. He said the corporation collects tax for all facilities, so why is it lagging in providing them. Resident Mukesh Rai said the situation in the colony is the worst. He said it is one of the most posh colonies of Gwalior and contributes the highest tax, yet the road condition has remained poor for two years. He urged the administration to resolve the issue at the earliest and build a proper road.
