The incident occurred in the Cantonment police station area. According to information, the deceased has been identified as Kirti Kushwah (26), a resident of Nanakhedi, who was married to Nitish from Nanakhedi. Initial information reveals that the couple had been having disputes for some time. No family member was present in the house at the time of incident The deceased’s mother-in-law, Gudi Bai, said that in the morning, Kirti performed prayers with the family. After that, she was at home with her baby. The mother-in-law had gone to the market. Both daughters-in-law were sitting in the courtyard. Kirti was feeding food to the baby. After this, the elder daughter-in-law went to the temple. During this time, no one was at home. Taking advantage of being alone, Kirti stuffed cotton in the baby’s mouth and nose, then hanged herself in the house. With the help of neighbors, she was brought down. The woman and child were immediately taken to the district hospital, where doctors declared Kirti dead. There used to be disputes over electricity bills The in-laws said that the house had an electricity bill arrears of about ₹1 lakh. Around ₹10K were deposited every month, but last month’s payment could not be made, due to which the electricity was cut off. The husband and wife often had disputes over this matter. They had an argument even one day before the incident. It was said that Kirti had asked her husband to pay the electricity bill because the fans and coolers were not able to run in the house. The dispute between them escalated over this matter. The husband had also called the maternal family to explain the situation. Maternal family alleges harassment The deceased’s mother alleged that the in-laws were continuously harassing her daughter, and she was physically abused. She says that due to this harassment, her daughter took this step. The maternal family has filed a complaint at the police station. Investigation being conducted based on allegations In this case, Cant Police Station In-charge TI Anoop Kumar Bhargav said that since it’s a case of a newly married woman, the post-mortem was conducted in the presence of the Tehsildar. The body has been handed over to the family. Meanwhile, an investigation is being conducted based on the allegations made by the maternal family. Further action will be taken after the investigation.
