A motorcycle fell into an under-construction culvert on the State Highway connecting Raisen to Rahatgarh, claiming the life of 32-year-old truck driver Abdul Qayyum from Bhopal. Steel rods protruding from the culvert pierced his body, causing instant death. On Monday morning, Naktara police reached the site, retrieved the body, and sent it for post-mortem at the district hospital. This is the second accident on this stretch of road in just two days. Family members have alleged negligence on the part of the road construction company and contractors, claiming that no warning boards or safety arrangements were in place at the site. His uncle, Lazim Khan, said Qayyum had told the family about going with friends before leaving home. Family members said Abdul had come home to celebrate Eid. He is survived by two daughters and a son, along with two brothers. Uncle said – No signboards were put up on the road The victim’s family accused the road construction company and contractors of gross negligence. Lazim Khan said safety norms were being ignored during construction. No warning signs or information boards were placed on the diverted road, he added. He said accidents frequently occur on this road. Just a day earlier, a mini truck loaded with fruits had fallen into the same under-construction culvert, leaving the driver and cleaner seriously injured. Ali Hasan added that previous accidents occurred mainly due to the lack of safety signage. No warning boards were installed on the diverted road during culvert construction, which he said directly contributed to this fatal accident.
