Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has again sent a strong administrative message by removing Guna SP Ankit Soni and Sidhi Collector Swarochnish Somvanshi for lapses in duty. During his tenure of roughly 14 months, the CM has taken action against an officer every 46 days on average, demonstrating the government’s strict stance against negligence at all levels. Since taking office on December 13, 2023, Dr. Yadav has taken action against 10 IAS officers and 8 IPS officers, including senior officials. At least nine major cases involved direct action against Collectors and SPs, with further strict measures against senior IPS and state administrative service officers. Key cases and Removals 1. Guna Hawala case SP Ankit Soni was removed on March 22 after a raid in Guna recovered ₹1 crore from a trader, yet ₹20 lakh bribe was allegedly taken to release the accused. Four police personnel, including the station in-charge, were suspended. 2. Sidhi Collector lapses Collector Swarochnish Somvanshi was removed for absenteeism. Reports suggested he spent minimal time in office, causing public and political dissatisfaction. His inaction also impacted a project requiring NOC clearance. 3. Ashoknagar Anandpur Sahib trust bribery case Collector Aditya Singh was removed on January 24 due to alleged bribery in action against the trust. Saket Malviya was appointed as the new Ashoknagar Collector. 4. Indore contaminated water deaths After 23 deaths due to sewage-contaminated water in Bagirathpura, Commissioner Dilip Yadav and Additional Commissioner Rohit Sisonia were removed on January 2. Posts were reshuffled to manage administration and oversight. 5. Mauganj Gadra murder case Following a police killing and community tension in Gadra village on March 15, 2025, both Collector Ajay Srivastava and SP Rasna Thakur were replaced. Srivastava was reassigned as Under Secretary in the Public Property Sports Department, while Rasna was posted to AIG PHQ Bhopal. 6. Sagar wall collapse In Shahpur, Sagar, where 9 children died due to a wall collapse, Collector Deepak Arya, SP Abhishek Tiwari, and SDM Sandeep Singh were removed on August 4, 2024. Arya was later appointed CEO of the MP Rural Road Development Authority. 7. Shajapur truck driver incident Collector Kishore Kanyal was removed in January 2024 after a viral video showed him confronting a driver during a strike. He was later reassigned to secretarial positions in the ministry and forest department. 8. Harda firecracker factory blast After 13 deaths and over 75 injuries in Harda on February 7, 2024, SP Sanjeev Kumar Kanchan and Collector Rishi Garg were removed. Garg was reassigned as Under Secretary, and Kanchan was posted as Assistant Inspector General at Police Headquarters. 9. Seventy cattle killed in Seoni Following the illegal slaughter of over 50 cattle in June 2024, Seoni Collector Kshitij Singhal and SP Rakesh Kumar Singh were removed. Singhal was reassigned as MD of MP Central Region Power Distribution Company, and Rakesh Singh posted as Assistant IG. 10. Guna bus fire tragedy Within 15 days of taking office, CM Yadav removed Guna Collector Tarun Rathi, SP Vijay Kumar Khatri, and Transport Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Jha after a bus fire killed 13 people on December 27, 2023. RTO and municipal officials were suspended, and administrative reshuffles followed. 11. Katni SP controversy SP Abhijeet Ranjan was removed in June 2025 following complaints from a CSP’s family regarding administrative disputes, and he was posted to Police Headquarters. CM Mohan Yadav’s governance style Dr. Yadav’s tenure highlights a robust approach to governance, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and citizen safety, while sending a clear signal that administrative lapses will not be tolerated.
