A serious case of human trafficking has come to light in Jabalpur. A 19-year-old girl from the Gohalpur area was lured and taken to Ujjain, where she was held captive. She was later taken to Kota, sold for ₹2 lakh, and forcibly married. The girl managed to escape after four months and returned home, which led to the case being reported. Following her complaint, Adhartal police arrested Javed and Poonam. Ishwar from Ujjain and Paras from Kota remain absconding, and police teams are preparing to trace them. Taken to Ujjain under the pretext of sightseeing The girl had started working at a clothing store in the Adhartal area eight months ago. There, she came into contact with Javed, who introduced her to his acquaintance Poonam. After initial conversations, Poonam lured the girl to Ujjain under the pretext of a Mahakaleshwar temple visit. Once there, she was held captive for around 15 days. From Ujjain to Kota, deal for 2 lakhs In Ujjain, the girl was handed over to a man named Ishwar. She was then taken by train to Kota and sold to Paras for approximately ₹2 lakh. In Kota, she was taken to a temple and forcibly married. When she resisted, she was threatened with death. She was then kept captive and subjected to sexual exploitation. Returned after escaping four months later About four months later, the girl managed to escape and reached Jabalpur on 18 March, informing her family of the entire ordeal. Her family had originally filed a missing person report with Adhartal police on 11 December 2025. During the investigation, the case was reclassified as human trafficking. The police have arrested two accused in connection with the case, while investigations continue to locate the remaining absconding individuals.
