In Madhya Pradesh, BJP legislators appear to be setting records in appointing personal representatives. Last year, Pichhore MLA Pritam Lodhi drew attention after naming representatives in police stations. Now, Karera MLA Ramesh Khatik has gone a step further by appointing 106 MLA representatives. The Karera legislator has named representatives not only in nearly all departments at the district headquarters but also in schools, colleges, hostels and even private universities within his constituency. Appointments have also been made in community health centres, primary health centres and veterinary hospitals. Congress said: You’ll find an MLA representative in every other street Reacting to the development, Madhya Pradesh Congress communication department chief Bhupendra Gupta said that in the BJP government there is now a race to appoint representatives rather than focus on public work. He recalled that earlier Pritam Lodhi had appointed representatives in police stations. Similarly, Union Minister and Tikamgarh MP Virendra Kumar Khatik had appointed over 125 parliamentary representatives, which had triggered opposition even from BJP MLAs and former ministers at the time. Gupta said the Karera MLA has now appointed so many representatives that “one can find an MLA representative in every second lane”. MLA said: When workers go, we will get information When asked about the large number of appointments, Ramesh Khatik said if he is unable to personally visit departments such as the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan or DPIP, party workers can attend meetings and keep him informed. “Meetings are held and someone has to be present. We are appointing representatives for that purpose,” he said, adding that the appointments were not arbitrary. After opposition from Congress, those appointments were later cancelled. Similarly, Union Minister Virendra Kumar Khatik had appointed nearly 130 parliamentary representatives in the Tikamgarh Lok Sabha constituency. The move sparked protests from within the BJP, with allegations that some appointees had Congress links or questionable backgrounds. Complaint reached the Prime Minister BJP leaders complained to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the appointments of MP representatives. This matter had also reached the BJP office in Bhopal. First, two MLAs from Chhatarpur district had objected to the appointment of MP representatives. After this, former BJP MLAs from Tikamgarh and Khargapur assembly constituencies had deemed the appointment of MP representatives wrong. Former MLA Rakesh Giri Goswami had alleged that Dr. Virendra Kumar had appointed people who work for the Congress party as representatives. Former MLA Rahul Singh Lodhi had accused the party of neglecting party workers and senior leaders in the appointment of MP representatives. Amid this controversy, on September 20, the Kotwali police station registered a case under POCSO Act against MP representative Ashish Tiwari. After the FIR was registered against the MP representative, this matter escalated. Finally, Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar cancelled the appointments of all MP representatives.
