A man allegedly beat his wife, tried to hang her, and later set her on fire in Chhatarpur district. The injured woman survived, hid in a straw pile during the night, and walked about 4 kilometres to reach the police station in the morning. The incident took place in Naya Chandrapur locality under Civil Line police station area. Police admitted the woman to the district hospital. The accused husband is absconding. Woman hid in straw pile during night According to the victim, Rashmi Rajput, her husband Raju Rajput beat her throughout Sunday. He allegedly tried to hang her with a rope, but she managed to escape. She said that between 4 pm and 5 pm, her husband poured petrol on her and set her on fire. She ran to save herself while he chased her. She then hid in a straw pile and managed to put out the fire. She remained there the entire night. Reached police station on foot in morning In the morning, Rashmi walked about 4 kilometres in injured condition to reach Civil Line police station. She informed police about the incident. Police admitted her to the district hospital for treatment. Doctor Manoj Chaudhary said the woman has suffered severe burn injuries but her condition is stable. Case registered, search for accused underway Civil Line police station in-charge Satish Singh said the woman’s statement is being recorded and a zero FIR has been registered. He said action will be taken based on her statement. Police have started searching for the accused. Investigation is ongoing.
