A 24-year-old MBA student was brutally murdered in the Dwarkapuri area of Indore. The accused, Piyush Dhamnotia, has been taken into a three-day police remand. Investigators say the crime was pre-planned and carried out in a calculated manner. Accused stayed in room for over two hours Police said CCTV cameras installed near the victim’s house recorded Dhamnotia entering with the student and later leaving alone with a bag. He reportedly remained inside the room for nearly two and a half hours. During interrogation, the accused allegedly gave disturbing details of the incident. A woman Sub-Inspector recording his statement was reportedly moved to tears after hearing about the alleged torture. Forced physical assault and murder According to police, the accused had purchased sexual enhancement tablets from a medical shop before the incident. He allegedly pressured the student into a physical relationship. When she refused, saying she was unwell, he reportedly forced himself on her. Investigators said that after the assault, he tied her hands and feet and blindfolded her, claiming he wanted to give her a gift. When she resisted, he allegedly stuffed cloth into her mouth and sat on her chest, strangling her until she became unconscious. Believing she had stopped breathing, he stabbed her near the chest. The knife is said to have broken during the attack. Alleged assault on body after drinking Police further stated that the accused later went to a liquor shop in the Footi Kothi area, bought beer, and returned to the room. He allegedly consumed alcohol beside the body and later sexually assaulted it. After changing his clothes, he left the scene with his bag. He then went to Sarwate Bus Stand and boarded a train towards Goa. Arrested from train Police traced his location to Goa after he switched on and used the victim’s mobile phone. A team conducted a coordinated operation and arrested him from a train travelling from Goa to Maharashtra. Message sent from victim’s phone Police said that on the night of 10 February, around 11 pm, the accused sent a message from the victim’s phone to her sister stating: “Tell father she will not return home.” Investigators also revealed that he allegedly shared 11 objectionable videos of the two of them in a college group. The videos were also posted on the victim’s WhatsApp status and sent to contacts saved in her phone, causing panic among relatives. Relationship dispute In his statement to police, Dhamnotia claimed that the victim’s family knew him and that their horoscopes had even been matched for marriage. However, he said his father did not approve of the relationship. He also told police that the victim had stopped speaking to him about 15 days before the incident, which upset him. Post-mortem conducted by five-doctor panel The post-mortem was carried out at MY Hospital by a team of three female and two male doctors. Due to the suspected brutality and sexual assault, doctors preserved around 12 samples for forensic testing, more than usual in such cases. The student had been missing since 10 February. She had left home with her father, saying she was going to get her Aadhaar card corrected. Later, she informed her younger sister that she was attending a birthday party with her classmate Piyush. She did not return home, and her phone was switched off. The police investigation into the case is ongoing.
