Now, North MLA Atif Akeel has objected to the route of Phase-2 of the Metro’s Orange Line in Bhopal. When an underground route was to pass through the Shahi Qabristan (Royal Cemetery) near Bhopal Talkies, MLA Akeel asked Metro Corporation officials, Did the Metro find space only in the cemetery? MLA Akeel said the Shahi Waqf Board had approached the court to stop the Metro line from passing through the Shahi Qabristan at Bhopal Talkies, where the board has obtained a stay order. During the hearing, the court advised both parties to hold discussions. Following this, a meeting and site inspection were held on Monday, during which officials were directed to remove Metro work from the cemetery and shift it elsewhere. Earlier, MP Alok Sharma had objected to the metro’s Blue Line project from Bhadbhada to Ratnagiri. In the meeting of the Traffic Safety Committee, he had said that the metro route from Bharat Mata Square to Lily Talkies Square should be underground. MLA Bhagwandas Sabnani had also agreed. However, work on this route has been going on for the last 7 months. Pillars have also started to be built. The entire route is elevated. Later, the Metro Corporation had also rejected this demand.
