Three men were killed after their car crashed through a bridge railing and plunged into a canal in Itarsi late on Friday night. The accident occurred around midnight in the Pathrota police station area. Police said the car struck the railing of the Pathrota canal bridge, broke through it, and fell directly into the canal. There were three to four youths in the vehicle, though only three deaths have been confirmed. All three occupants died on the spot. Eyewitnesses said the youths trapped inside the car were repeatedly banging on the doors but drowned within minutes. SDRF conducts lengthy rescue operation After receiving information about the accident, local police rushed to the spot and immediately began rescue efforts. A specialised team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was called from Narmadapuram. The rescue operation continued for nearly six hours, as strong water currents and the depth of the canal made the search difficult. Eventually, the SDRF team recovered all three bodies. The car itself could not be traced for several hours due to poor visibility and fast-flowing water. The bodies were later sent for post-mortem examination. One of the deceased has been identified as a resident of Rasalpur and another from Kesla, while the third victim is yet to be identified.
