After remaining stalled for nearly four years, construction of Indore’s long-awaited elevated corridor has finally begun on the ground. The Public Works Department (PWD) has started soil testing work for the 7.40-kilometre-long elevated corridor being built from AB Road to Navlakha. At present, soil testing is underway, for which a portion of the road has been covered with iron sheets. PWD officials said that foundation work will begin from February 15. Central line marking for the project has already been completed. ₹350-crore project stuck since 2021 The elevated corridor, estimated to cost Rs 350 crore, has been stuck since February 2021. Although the work order was awarded to Gujarat-based Rajkamal Builders at that time, the project faced repeated delays due to design changes, disputes over bus routes, and traffic-related concerns. The matter even reached the High Court. After prolonged uncertainty, the state government has now decided to proceed with the original design, clearing the way for construction to begin. Green signal from Minister and Collector The breakthrough came after Madhya Pradesh minister Kailash Vijayvargiya reviewed the project during recent city development meetings. Following his directions and approval from Collector Shivam Verma, all major hurdles have been cleared. Officials have clarified that no further design changes will be made, and the project will move forward strictly as per the Chief Minister’s instructions. Corridor features: 4 lanes and 3 flyovers Traffic advisory: Partial disruption expected Due to ongoing soil testing, temporary tin sheets have been installed on parts of the road, causing minor traffic inconvenience. PWD officials said that once heavy machinery arrives and excavation work starts from February 15, a detailed traffic diversion plan will be issued in coordination with the traffic police. Authorities have assured that necessary steps will be taken to minimise inconvenience to commuters during construction.
