Kanchan Bai Meghwal, president of the self-help group that cooks at an Anganwadi center in Neemuch, sacrificed her life to save children from a bee attack. On Monday afternoon in Ranpur village, she stood in front of the bees, wrapped all the children in tarpaulin and a rug, and sent them to an inner room. Kanchan Bai was stung multiple times and taken to the hospital in serious condition, where doctors declared her dead. Her body was handed over to her family on Tuesday after post-mortem. Local villagers said, Kanchan Bai was the president of ‘Jai Mata Di Self-Help Group’, which cooked food at the Anganwadi. Villagers are now hesitant to go near the Anganwadi, as there is a beehive on a tree there. Whereas the only handpump in the Anganwadi is the only source of water for the entire village. Villagers have demanded the district administration to immediately remove this beehive so that no further accidents occur. They have also appealed for financial assistance for Kanchan Bai’s family.
