A first-year MBBS student of MGM Medical College was found dead after allegedly hanging himself in his hostel room, police officials said on Tuesday. The deceased, Antariksh Agrawal, was a first-year student of the 2025 MBBS batch and a resident of Gwalior. He was 25 years old. The incident occurred in room number 43, located on the fourth floor of Block II of the MGM boys’ hostel, also known as Dr Amratkar Hostel. Incident came to light in the evening According to police, the incident came to light when the student’s roommate returned to the hostel around 5:30 pm after attending college. Despite repeated knocking and calling out, there was no response from inside the room. After waiting for nearly 10 to 11 minutes and suspecting something was wrong, the roommate alerted other students. With their help, the door was eventually broken open, following which the student was found hanging inside the room. Police and FSL team conduct spot inspection Police personnel reached the spot soon after being informed and sent the body for postmortem examination. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was also called to the hostel to inspect the crime scene. The FSL team examined the room, belongings, and other material evidence as part of the investigation. The room was sealed to preserve evidence. Roommate rules out disputes, relationship issues The deceased’s roommate, Harsh Kaushik, said there were no visible signs of distress or unusual behaviour. He had earlier said he would freshen up and go out. As far as I know, he was not under serious stress, except for some academic pressure, he said. He further stated that the student had returned earlier in the evening with friends and was using his mobile phone. There was no unusual behaviour, no dispute with anyone, and no issue related to any relationship. He never shared any major problem with me, Harsh added. Police say academic stress may be a factor Confirming the incident, Tushar Singh, ACP Sanyogitaganj area, said a student was found hanging in Room No. 43 of Dr Amratkar Hostel at the MGM boys’ hostel.
