Mandsaur police have arrested two brothers from Ahmedabad who were involved in manufacturing fake ghee. Around one and a half hundred litres of fake ghee have been seized from their possession. The accused had been living in Mandsaur for the past three months and were preparing fake ghee and selling it in rural areas at a rate of ₹200 per kg. City Kotwali and Nai Abadi police stations informed the Food Safety and Revenue Department after receiving information. Acting jointly, the teams carried out a raid on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday at a rented house in the Sitamau Phatak area, where a fake ghee-making unit was being operated. During the raid, it was found that the accused were preparing fake ghee by cooking Dalda/soybean oil mixed with chemicals and artificial desi fragrance, posing a serious threat to public health. Police seized the material being used to manufacture the fake ghee. Large quantity of fake ghee and material seized Police recovered around one and a half hundred litres of fake ghee from the spot. Along with it, soybean oil, utensils and a chemical used to create a fragrance similar to desi ghee were also seized. At the time of the raid, the accused were actively engaged in making fake ghee. The arrested accused have been identified as Gopal and Sanjay, sons of Ashok Bagri, residents of Ahmedabad (Gujarat). Both are real brothers. They used to sell fake ghee daily in rural areas SDM Shivlal Shakya said that preliminary investigation revealed the accused used to go daily to rural areas to sell fake ghee, cheating people by selling it at about ₹200 per kg. He said the accused were supplying ghee mixed with chemicals that is dangerous for health. On receiving information, he reached the spot along with the Food Safety Department and police team. The accused were heating soybean oil and mixing chemicals and artificial fragrance into it to prepare fake ghee. Samples of the seized ghee have been sent by the Food Safety team for laboratory testing. Cases have been registered against both accused under different sections, and further investigation is underway.
