Companies, business leaders and celebrities across India have donated millions of rupees to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) and local charities to aid recovery efforts. Celebrity on the ground Besides sending money to official funds, several well-known Indian personalities have traveled to the region to help on the ground: Ananya Birla: The entrepreneur and singer led relief drives through her foundation in Jorhat, distributing clean drinking water, food kits, and emergency supplies directly to flood victims. Randeep Hooda: The actor joined forces with Global Sikhs in Sivasagar to hand out ration kits and serve cooked meals at a community kitchen set up at the local railway stations. Bhumi Pednekar: The actress joined ground operations in affected districts in Assam to help hand out relief materials. Background on the Assam floods crisis Assam experiences severe flood disasters almost every year during the monsoon season. Heavy rains cause the massive Brahmaputra River and its many tributaries to overflow their riverbanks. The rushing water causes soil erosion, breaks mud embankments, damages bridges, and buries agricultural crops under thick mud. Flooding has displaced hundreds of thousands of residents across multiple districts, including Sivasagar, Jorhat, Charaideo, and Golaghat. Official reports indicate that the recent floods have claimed nearly 100 lives, destroyed thousands of livestock, and submerged entire villages. To help families survive the initial crisis, the state government launched direct relief payments of ₹15,000 per affected household to give people immediate cash for food, clean water, and basic home repairs
