The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued suggestions and directives to Madhya Pradesh and urban local bodies to deal with plastic pollution and microplastics. Citing Bhopal as an example, it said that there are more than 50 illegal plastic recycling units in Bhopal. This has created a serious threat for about 2 lakh people. Justice Sheo Kumar Singh and expert member Sudhir Kumar Chaturvedi of the NGT’s Central Zone Bench Bhopal have commented on this matter. The Tribunal noted that more than 50 illegal plastic recycling units in Bhopal are posing a serious risk to approximately 2 lakh citizens. Therefore, measures are necessary. Meanwhile, the Environment Secretary should submit an action report within four weeks, i.e., by March 27. The Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board, along with regional officers and municipal corporations of Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Rewa, and Ujjain, should take this matter seriously.
