air-india-makes-select-international-flights-cheaper:move-follows-decline-in-global-jet-fuel-prices

Air India has reduced fuel surcharges on select international routes following a decline in global crude oil and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices, offering some relief to international travellers. The revised charges came into effect on 1 July and apply to flights to North America, Australia, the UK and Europe, according to sources. Surcharge reduced by up to 39% The airline has lowered the fuel surcharge on flights to North America and Australia from $280 to $200 per passenger. On routes to the UK and Europe, the surcharge has been reduced from $205 to $125, marking a cut of up to 39%. The reduction follows a sharp fall in global jet fuel prices after recent geopolitical tensions in West Asia eased, helping bring down airline operating costs. Relief for international travellers Fuel surcharges form a significant part of international airfares, and the latest revision is expected to lower ticket prices on affected routes. Air India had introduced steep fuel surcharges earlier this year after a surge in global oil prices linked to the conflict in West Asia. The airline had said at the time that international fuel costs had nearly doubled, forcing carriers to pass on part of the burden to passengers. Move follows easing oil prices The latest reduction comes after domestic ATF prices were cut by nearly ₹5 per litre earlier this week, reflecting softer international crude oil prices. Industry experts believe the lower fuel costs could help stabilise international airfares if oil prices remain subdued in the coming months.
