A Class 5 student was found hanging at his home in Biryakhedi area of Ratlam on Wednesday afternoon. The child was wearing his school uniform at the time of the incident, even though he had earlier refused to go to school. Police are treating the case as a suspected suicide and have begun an investigation. Mother discovered the body According to the police, the incident came to light around 2 pm when the boy’s mother returned home from work. She found her son hanging from a scarf tied to the hall doorway. With the help of neighbours and relatives, the child was taken down before his father arrived. Declared dead at hospital The family rushed the child to a private hospital on 80 Feet Road, where doctors declared him dead. Around 4 pm, the body was shifted to the medical college mortuary. The police were informed about the incident at around 5 pm. Only son of the family The deceased was the only surviving son of the family. Their other son had died due to illness at the age of one-and-a-half years. The family is inconsolable following the death of their only child. The body has been kept at the medical college, and post-mortem examination will be conducted on Thursday morning. Had refused to go to school The child’s school timing was from 10 am. On Wednesday, he did not attend school, although he was wearing his uniform at the time of the incident. His mother had prepared his tiffin before leaving for work. The father had spoken to the child in the morning over the phone through a relative living nearby, during which the boy had said that he did not want to go to school that day. Police investigation underway Police have registered a Marg and are investigating all aspects of the incident to ascertain the circumstances that led to the child’s death.
