This adds an all-new turn to the growing controversy, with less than a month left for the T20 World Cup to start. Bangladesh have been involved in an impasse over their refusal to visit India for the T20 World Cup, citing security concerns. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the ICC (International Cricket Council) have been involved in discussions to clear the deadlock. Pakistan halts T20 World Cup preparations According to reports by Pakistan’s Geo News, Pakistan have halted their preparations for the tournament that starts on 7 February. A day ago, it was reported by NDTV that Pakistan have communicated to Bangladesh that it would reconsider its T20 World Cup participation if BCB’s issue with the venue remained unsolved. “All preparations for the national team ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 have been put on hold, with the team management being briefed about the plans,” www.telecomasia.net quoted sources in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Pakistan had earlier also expressed eagerness to host Bangladesh’s matches in the T20 World Cup as a solution to the problem. Pakistan will play all their matches in Sri Lanka as per an ICC directive from earlier on. Salman Ali Agha and his men will look to mount a stronger challenge this time after suffering group stage elimination in 2024. Pakistan, placed in Group A, will start their T20 World Cup campaign against the Netherlands on 7 February. Their next match is against the USA on 10 February. Pakistan’s last two group matches will be against India (15 February) and Namibia (18 February). Before the T20 World Cup, Pakistan will host Australia in a three-match T20I series that will start on 29 January. All three matches will be played in Lahore.
