The ODI series against New Zealand was the last assignment for Team India in the format till July. Virat Kohli scored a century in the series decider, but it was not enough to carry his side over the line. The Kiwis won the match in Indore by 41 runs, and claimed their first-ever ODI series victory on Indian soil. The three-match ODI series was memorable for a few players, but for others, it was a forgettable affair. Let’s take a look at the report of the Indian players after the 1-2 series defeat to New Zealand. Team India’s report card after New Zealand series 1) Virat Kohli 9.0/10 King Kohli impresses once again Virat Kohli has impressed once again with his superb form in the three-match series. The No. 1-ranked ODI batter was India’s highest run-scorer in the series, hitting 240 runs, including one century, with a highest score of 124. While he could not take India past the finish line in the decider, his performance was applause-worthy. 2) KL Rahul 8.0/10 Decent outing for reliable Rahul KL Rahul was impressive in the ODI series against New Zealand, earning an 8.0 rating. The wicketkeeper-batter took India past the finish line in the first ODI, which was a tense chase. In the second game, he stood out with a stellar century and was once again India’s best batter. In 3 matches, Rahul scored 142 runs and although he could not make a mark in the decider, it was an impressive series for him. 3) Rohit Sharma 2.0/10 Hitman flops against Black Caps Rohit Sharma had a poor series with the bat in hand. After showing good form against Australia Down Under and in the home series against South Africa, Rohit flopped with the bat in these three matches. The Hitman managed to score just 61 runs in three matches with a highest score of 26 and this is one performance he would love to forget. 4) Shubman Gill 5.0/10 Impressive, but more was expected Shubman Gill suffered his second ODI series loss as captain. With the bat, he had a decent outing, with two fifties in three matches. The Indian captain scored 135 runs in three matches, averaging 45 and although these numbers might look good enough, much more was expected of the Indian captain. 5) Shreyas Iyer 2.0/10 Far from his best Shreyas Iyer was far from his best in the ODI series against New Zealand. Returning from an injury, he reclaimed his number four batting position from Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was left out after scoring a century against South Africa. Iyer impressed in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and was expected to carry on that form. But it was not to be. In three matches, he scored just 60 runs with a highest of 49. He was slotted into India’s playing XI for the second and third ODIs after Washington Sundar’s injury. In two matches, Reddy scored 73 runs and did not take any wickets, bowling 10 overs in two matches. Although he was impressive with the bat in the decider, Reddy needs more work to develop as the all-rounder that India need him to be. 2) Ravindra Jadeja 2.0/10 Poor show from Jadeja For Ravindra Jadeja, the ODI series against New Zealand was one that he would want to forget as soon as possible. The experienced all-rounder failed to take even a single wicket and hit just 43 runs in three matches, which shows the little impact he made as India lost the series. 3) Washington Sundar 4.0/10 Injury cut short his participation Washington Sundar could have left an impact in the ODI series, but his participation was cut short due to a rib injury. He sustained that injury while bowling in the first ODI and was ruled out later on. He could bowl just five overs and score seven runs in the only match he played. 1) Harshit Rana 7.0/10 Improved bowler, all-rounder in progress Harshit Rana was one of the improved bowlers in the ODI series against New Zealand. He finished with the most wickets for India in the series. Harshit provided wickets with the new ball in all three matches and ended up with six in total, although his economy could have been a bit better. However, what stood out about his performance was his role as an all-rounder. Harshit scored 83 runs in three matches, including crucial contributions in the first and third matches. 2) Mohammed Siraj 5.0/10 Most economical among all Indian bowlers Mohammed Siraj was recalled to India’s ODI team for the three-match series and if his individual performance is to be scanned, he did not do too much wrong. Siraj picked up three wickets in three matches and had an impressive economy rate of 4.59 in what was a high-scoring series. His wicket-taking ability was certainly missed. 3) Prasidh Krishna 4.0/10 Could have been better Prasidh Krishna played two games for India in the three-match series and if his performance is to be judged, one can say that it wasn’t very impressive. Prasidh took three wickets in two matches at an economy rate of 6.05. He also dropped a catch, of Daryl Mitchell in the second ODI, which cost India the game and was subsequently benched for the decider. 4) Arshdeep Singh 9.0/10 Sparkled in his only opportunity Arshdeep Singh made an impact in the only ODI he got to play in the series. He came into India’s playing XI in the decider and picked up three wickets while conceding 63 runs in 10 overs. Had he gotten more opportunities, the outcome of the series could have been impacted by his performance. 5) Kuldeep Yadav 4.0/10 India’s lone specialist spinner failed to shine Kuldeep Yadav was India’s lone specialist spinner in the ODI series and could not live upto his expectations. The chinaman bowler hardly posed any threat to the Kiwi batters, taking just three wickets in three matches at an economy rate of 7.28. As the lead spinner, he was expected to do more.
