The assault on 4 December At 12 pm on 4 December 2025, the girl was playing with her siblings in Kanpar village near Atkot, Rajkot district. Ramsingh arrived on a motorcycle, seized the child, and took her to a nearby tree.He raped her, inserting a 5-inch iron rod into her private parts. Her screams alerted her aunt in an adjacent room, who rushed to the scene as Ramsingh fled. Immediate medical response The aunt found the girl in critical condition with severe bleeding. She alerted the father and rushed her by ambulance to Kanpar village government hospital. The child’s state was dire, leading to transfer to Jasdan Government Hospital. By 9 pm, she reached Rajkot Janana Hospital. A radiologist and gynaecologist assessed her for surgery amid heavy blood loss. Doctors stabilised her with great difficulty. Police notification The father reported the incident to police, who launched a preliminary inquiry as no eyewitnesses identified the perpetrator. Police detained Ramsingh on suspicion on 8 December 2025. During custody, they recovered a blood-stained iron rod from under a tree in Kanpar village. A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) officer inspected the site and collected strands of the accused’s head hair. Crucial DNA matches Forensic tests confirmed the hair belonged to Ramsingh. The blood on the rod matched the victim’s. Investigators seized Ramsingh’s mobile phone. Call detail records (CDR) verified his location in Kanpar village at the time of the crime. The probe concluded in 11 days, with charges filed on 15 December 2025. Victim’s father’s appeal The father submitted a detailed letter to the court, demanding severe punishment for the accused. Conviction came on 12 January 2026. Sentencing, originally set for 15 January in Rajkot’s special court, proceeded on 17 January. Judge V.A. Rana pronounced the death sentence today, Saturday.
