In a major crackdown on illegal narcotics, Indore police arrested a drug peddler with MD drugs and seized a Mahindra Thar vehicle used for supplying drugs in the city. The action was taken late on the night of January 12 as part of an ongoing drive against drug trafficking in urban Indore. Police action during night patrol The accused has been identified as Abaan Shakeel, 27, a resident of Koh-e-Fiza Colony in Bhopal. Police recovered 5.15 grams of MD drugs, valued at around Rs 65,000, from his possession. Suspicious movement leads to arrest According to the police, the Kanadia police team was on routine night patrol near the main road in front of DPS 05 on Phoenix Mall Road when they noticed a Thar car parked under suspicious circumstances. On being stopped, the occupant appeared nervous and tried to evade questions. He was found carrying a transparent polythene pouch containing a white, salt-like substance, which was later confirmed to be MD drugs. Thar car used for supply Initial investigation revealed that the accused was supplying MD drugs and other illegal narcotics in Indore using his Thar vehicle. Following the recovery, police registered Crime No. 29/26 under Sections 8/22 of the NDPS Act at Kanadia police station and took the accused into custody. Probe on drug supply network Police officials said further investigation is underway to trace the source of the seized drugs and to identify other people linked to the drug supply network. The Mahindra Thar car used in the crime has also been seized. The operation was carried out under the direction of Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh and senior officers of Zone-2. Kanadia police station staff, including Inspector Saharsh Yadav and his team, played a key role in the successful operation.
