A major road accident claimed three lives on the Ratlam–Jhabua road late Monday night when a truck loaded with tiles overturned onto a small loading vehicle. The incident occurred between 10 and 10:30 pm near Undwa village in the Bilpank police station area. According to police, the truck was travelling from Jhabua towards Ratlam and was climbing the Koyla Valley slope when it lost balance. The vehicle suddenly rolled backwards while ascending and overturned onto a loading vehicle that was coming from behind. Loading vehicle crushed, all 3 occupants dead The loading vehicle, which was carrying empty egg trays, came directly under the reversing truck. Due to the impact, both vehicles fell into a roadside ditch. All three people travelling in the loading vehicle were crushed under the truck and died on the spot. The bodies were badly trapped inside the mangled vehicle, making rescue operations difficult. See visuals of the incident.. Rescue operation lasted over 2 hours After receiving information, Bilpank police station in-charge Ayub Khan reached the spot with his team. Two cranes and one JCB machine were deployed to separate the truck and the loading vehicle. After nearly two and a half hours of effort, police and rescue teams managed to retrieve the bodies. The deceased were later sent by ambulance to Ratlam Medical College for post-mortem examination. Traffic on the road was disrupted for some time due to the accident and recovery work. Normal movement was restored after the vehicles were removed from the ditch. Victims identified The deceased have been identified as Abdul Hamid (50), son of Faiz Mohammad, a resident of Jhabua; Riaz (48), son of Shabbir Ahmad, a resident of Subhash Nagar near the railway crossing in Ratlam; and Zafar (52), son of Abdul Shakur, a resident of Mohan Talkies Pinjarwadi in Ratlam. Two of the victims were from Ratlam district, while one belonged to Jhabua. Technical fault suspected Station in-charge Ayub Khan said preliminary investigation suggests a possible technical fault in the truck, due to which it lost control while climbing and rolled backwards. Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
