A 25-kilometre-long traffic jam on the Agra-Mumbai National Highway in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district was cleared around 3 AM on Thursday after an overnight operation by police and the administration. The highway had remained blocked since 4 PM on Wednesday, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded for nearly seven hours between Bheru Ghat and Manpur Bridge. Children, elderly people, and women travelling in buses, trucks, and private cars faced severe trouble due to heat, humidity, hunger, and thirst. The traffic disruption was caused by paving work being carried out in the ghat section by the road construction company, leading to long queues of vehicles on both sides of the highway. Senior police officers, including Additional Superintendent of Police Rajkrishna, SDOP Lalit, and the Manpur police station in-charge, remained at the spot with their teams throughout the night. Police cleared the jam by allowing vehicles to move one by one. Traffic on the national highway returned to normal after the congestion was fully cleared at around 3 AM. See these pictures of the jam Traffic stopped from Bheru Ghat to Manpur Bridge According to passersby, the road construction company is carrying out repair work in the ghat section. During this time, due to increased traffic pressure, long queues of vehicles formed on both sides and the highway became completely jammed. Many people have been stuck in Bheru Ghat since 4 PM on Monday. Passenger Wasim Khan, stuck in the jam, said that they have been standing in the same spot for about 7 hours. They can neither move forward nor is there a way to turn back. According to him, thousands of people are stuck on the highway for hours. Queue of vehicles from Janapav Kuti to Ganesh Ghat Wasim Khan said that the jam spread from Janapav Kuti on the four-lane road in Manpur police station area to Ganesh Ghat in Dhamnod police station area. Trucks, buses, cars, and other vehicles were seen standing far along the road. Rain and vehicles entering from the wrong side increased the difficulty According to the police, continuous rain affected relief efforts. Meanwhile, many drivers, in an attempt to leave quickly, brought their vehicles from the wrong direction, which further increased the jam. Vehicles coming face-to-face from both sides completely disrupted traffic. Truck broke down on the incline, situation worsened again Heavy vehicles were already moving slowly on the steep climb of Bheru Ghat. During this, a truck broke down and stopped in the middle of the climb. After this, a long queue of vehicles formed behind it. In no time, the jam spread for about 25 kilometers and the entire highway came to a standstill. Police team fully engaged in clearing the jam Considering the problems of vehicle drivers, Manpur Police Station in-charge Mahendra Makasle reached the spot with his team. He deployed policemen to manage the traffic. Due to the narrow road of the ghat, an alternative arrangement could not be made. Damaged truck being slowly removed, efforts to normalize Police are engaged in removing the damaged truck from the road and clearing vehicles one by one. Policemen are controlling traffic and slowly moving vehicles forward, so that traffic can be normalized. However, even by 11 PM, a traffic jam of about 25 kilometres was still present on the highway. Thousands of passengers, passenger buses, trucks, and private vehicles are still stranded.
