Northern Madhya Pradesh remains under the grip of dense fog and severe cold. On Friday morning, moderate to dense fog was reported in 17 districts across the Gwalior, Chambal, Sagar, Rewa and Shahdol divisions. Due to poor visibility, more than a dozen trains running from Delhi towards Bhopal, Indore and Ujjain are operating with delays. The foggy conditions have affected both road and rail movement, particularly in the early morning hours, causing inconvenience to commuters. Cold wave alert in seven districts Along with fog, the Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave alert for seven districts, including Datia and Rewa. The cold wave is expected to continue in Datia, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Rewa, Mauganj and Shahdol. Shahdol is also likely to experience cold day conditions. On Thursday, day temperatures in Gwalior and Datia remained below 12 degrees Celsius. This marked the first time this season that the difference between day and night temperatures was minimal, indicating intense cold conditions. Mercury dips sharply, Khajuraho coldest Severe cold and dense fog prevailed across the state on Thursday as well, with temperatures dropping in most cities. Khajuraho in Chhatarpur districvt recorded the lowest temperature at 3.2 degrees Celsius. Rewa followed at 4.1 degrees, Datia at 4.2 degrees, Naugaon (Shivpuri) at 5 degrees, Umaria at 5.4 degrees and Pachmarhi at 5.8 degrees Celsius. In many other cities of Madhya Pradesh, minimum temperatures remained below 10 degrees, reflecting the intensity of the cold spell. Day and night temperatures converge Days and nights have both turned unusually cold in the state. According to the Meteorological Department, Gwalior witnessed a sharp fall of 7.8 degrees in daytime temperature within a single day, recording a maximum of 10.4 degrees Celsius. This was just 4.3 degrees higher than the night’s minimum temperature. Day temperatures were recorded at 11.6 degrees in Datia, 14.5 degrees in Naugaon, 14.7 degrees in Khajuraho, 17.4 degrees in Sheopur, 17.5 degrees in Tikamgarh, 18.5 degrees in Rewa, 19.4 degrees in Satna, 20.4 degrees in Sidhi, 20.8 degrees in Pachmarhi, 22 degrees in Guna and Damoh, 23 degrees in Malajkhand and 23.4 degrees in Narsinghpur and Sagar. Weather outlook for Saturday The Meteorological Department has predicted fog on Saturday in Gwalior, Sheopur, Morena, Bhind, Datia, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Panna, Satna, Rewa and Mauganj. After this, weather conditions are expected to gradually clear, with both maximum and minimum temperatures likely to rise by 2 to 3 degrees. January continues severe cold trend This winter season has broken multiple records in Madhya Pradesh. November witnessed the coldest conditions in 84 years, while December broke a 25-year record. January is continuing the trend of extreme cold, breaking Bhopal’s 10-year cold record. Experts note that dense fog, cold waves and occasional western disturbances make December and January the coldest months for the state, with cold winds from North India significantly lowering temperatures.
